Forest Lawn Merchandise

Forest Lawn Museum opened in 1952, but the collection predates the museum by nearly forty years. Forest Lawn Memorial Park began collecting art in 1915 with the acquisition of a small, bronze sculpture: Duck Baby by Edith Barretto Parsons. The collection grew rapidly as Forest Lawn commissioned stained glass windows for churches and mausoleums, and sculptures to adorn the memorial park. By the 1940s, Forest Lawn opened the Hall of American Sculpture, which was a gallery within the Great Mausoleum. In 1951 the Hall of Crucifixion-Resurrection opened atop Mount Forest Lawn, which is a purpose-built structure designed to house The Crucifixion, a 195-foot-wide painting by Polish artist Jan Styka. The following year Forest Lawn Museum opened to the public. Located next to the Hall of Crucifixion-Resurrection, the museum houses a permanent collection of bronze and marble sculptures, paintings, and stained glass windows dating from the twelfth through sixteenth centuries. Forest Lawn Museum has hosted dozens of exhibitions, covering topics that range from aerial photography to marionettes to contemporary abstract art. 

The mission of Forest Lawn Museum is to enrich, inspire, and educate the community through artwork, exhibitions, and cultural programs. Art serves as a means of celebrating life, and it allows us to contemplate important themes such as beauty, triumph, and the passage of time. As part of Forest Lawn Memorial Park, the museum is a place for visitors to reflect, learn, and enjoy the magnificence of the world around us.
